Entry Level 3/Level 1

If you are unsure about using numbers, this is the right place to start. This course will give you the confidence to add, subtract, multiply and divide numbers. You will learn new techniques for doing sums in your head and on paper, showing that you really can do Maths, even if you think you can’t.

You will learn how to:

  • Use number, measurement, calculation, shape, data and other maths skills to solve everyday problems.    
  • Choose which mathematical approaches will work best in the situation you are dealing with.    
  • Check your working at each stage.    
  • Explain your approaches and methods to others.    
  • Develop the confidence to tackle a variety of maths problems in different situations.  
  • Develop calculator and non-calculator skills. 
  • Appreciate the role of maths in everyday life and work situation

This course aims to help you in the following ways:

  • Improve your maths and problem-solving skills in real-life familiar contexts.  
  • Develop your ability to understand and use maths effectively in everyday life and work.  
  • Gain a Functional Skills qualification at Entry Level 3/Level 1 and seek to apply for a higher level  maths course
  • Gain skills that learners need to progress into further education or employment
